Incontinence is the tendency to urinate frequently or uncontrollably. It can lead to bladder problems such as infections and it most certainly leads to embarrassing leaks and frequent trips to the bathroom. It is most common in women and the only remedies that a physician will offer are equally as embarrassing as the condition itself. A doctor may offer you the choice of wearing a diaper, taking a daily pill, or trying some strengthening exercises. If the condition is severe enough, your physician may recommend surgery to alleviate pressure on your bladder.

People suffering from incontinence should consider cutting down on beverages such as coffee, tea, and alcohol to help alleviate their condition. Caffeine compounds the problem by irritating the bladder and making the urinary flow more frequent and intense. Alcohol can cause muscles around the pelvic area to become weak and thus unable to hold the urine. At the same time, it is a diuretic just like caffeine and that makes it necessary to urinate even more frequently.

When dealing with incontinence it is necessary to know that drinking fluids and the right amounts of them are vital. Drinking more water may actually help and does not exasperate the problem. Your body must have water to function properly and drinking less of it can actually irritate the bladder and increase urination frequency. Water is pure and your body uses it to flush out excess amounts of acid and bacteria. Sipping water all day long is a good habit that you can try to help your incontinence to improve.

But suppose the water you are drinking to improve your health is actually full of contaminants and pollutants which can cause or at least irritate your urinary incontinence? Your water may contain high pH acidity levels which can have an effect on the bladder. It may contain harmful levels of nitrates from agricultural fertilizer and wastes seeping into your well. Nitrates have been linked to cancers. Arsenic contamination of water can also result in incontinence after drinking only small amounts over an extended period of time. Bottled waters are packaged in plastic bottles which if left in a hot car for example, can release harmful chemicals right into the water that you drink In fact, as many as 40 different contaminants or pollutants have been found in the ten most popular brands of bottled water in the United States. Pharmaceutical wastes, cancer-causing products from municipal chlorination, minerals and heavy metals such as iron and even radioactive isotopes have all been found during testing.

Drinking water can be an effective treatment tool for incontinence. But we must concern ourselves with the content of that water in order to increase the benefits of natural body detoxification and purification. There are numerous self-testing kits that can be used to check the quality of your water supply. And while you test your tap water why not test a few brands of bottled water if that's what you intend to drink? Pure water is out there, we just have to find it.
